WNA #16: Writing retreat and deadlines
I’m traveling a lot in April and May.
First, I’m going to OFFF Barcelona, ‘A festival of creativity, art, and digital design’ from April 4—6.
Then, between 13 April and 13 May, I’ll be in Japan (and a few days in Copenhagen, and a half-day layover in Dubai — don’t ask) for relentless traveling and tourism.
This all aligns very poorly with my writing deadlines.
In March, I’m due for three versions of the cover. If memory serves you well, which it does, you’ll realize that the publisher and I haven’t even tied the knot on the title yet.
In April, I’m due for the first version of the entire book (still looking for proofreaders), which is a rather daunting deadline.
In addition, freelance work has picked up lately with a few overlapping projects, which I am grateful for, but also causes heavy anxiety and an urge to flee, become a monk, and never return.
So, here’s my answer:
In the last week of March, I’ll be staying in this tiny cottage located somewhere on the outskirts of a farming village in the province of Zeeland. All alone. Just me and my laptop and the lush fields and probably heavy overcast, depressing downpour and deafening gusts of wind.
But no matter. The idea of retreating with nothing else to do but write gives me much needed peace of mind and the confidence that it’ll all work out.
I shall put my head down and emerge victorious.
Talk soon.
