WNA #7: Good news from 2023, and iterating on the cover
The day before I sent my updated pitch to the publisher, I stumbled upon some unwelcome news. That was last week. You can read about it here if you feel so inclined to indulge in my discomfort.
The good news is that the publisher has already replied! He complimented me for how I worked with his feedback, and we have a new meeting set for later in December.
Now, I think I’m a calm and reasonable person. I tend not to get ahead of myself or make overly optimistic assumptions. But a busy publisher sure as hell isn’t going to propose a second meeting if he’s not seriously interested in taking it to second base.
So, I think it’s safe to say that I have a good shot at actually getting this book published in 2024 — and with a reputable publisher, mind you.
Below are a few pages from the updated proposal. I’m leaving out the competitive “audit” — which caused me to run into the other book — because it’s, well, not very interesting.
Iterating on the cover
I shared the cover design on LinkedIn, and I got a decent amount of feedback. I slept on the comments for a few nights, letting them “ferment,” and I have a good idea of how I want to iterate on the cover, taking it to the next level.
Now, I didn’t design the font featured on the cover myself. It’s a fresh drop that coincidentally hit my inbox by the time I started thinking about the cover. It’s by the fantastic OH no Type, called DONE.
So, what’s the next step for the cover? Let me just drop this here. I’m sure you’ll be able to figure it out:
